Levin-Weinstein won the Cavendish Pairs once more. They were second before the last session and overtook Helgemo-Helness (another pair who traditionally finish well at the Cavendish). They had their hiccups in the last session though. Weinstein passed Levin’s takeout double of two hearts with five trumps but couldn’t beat it. And Levin let Rogoff make this game:

Levin led a heart which Rogoff won in hand with the nine. He countinued with the king and ace of spades. Levin did well to play the jack on the first round nevertheless Rogoff took the spade finesse and cashed the last trump as Levin parted with two diamonds (the only discarding to beat the contract). Now Rogoff played a club from hand and Levin failed to unblock the king. So Rogoff took the ace cashed the hearts and exitec with a club. Just made.
Maybe Levin wasn’t sure which honours Weinstein had if any. Switch the club queen and diamond king and playing the king is a complete disaster (the play would be different in this case though). Weinstein played the spades up the line another indication of the minor position.
Weinstein made the first error though. If he responds one spade they probably buy the contract at two diamonds.
